Subject:
History of the Madras Army by Wilson
Military history is a relatively new branch of historical inquiry in India. However, the post mutiny period in the nineteenth century saw a robust interest in matters military and the volumes on the Madras Army are classics in their own right. Though written from an obviously British point of view, the volumes display a vast fund of knowledge on (a) training and recruitment (b) Native battalions and their participation in wars and campaigns and (c)battle tactics.
